This season, we all love to consume our all time favourite hot and sour chicken vegetable soup. Soup brings in the comforting and warm element into the cold wintery season. As soup is evidently one of the main dishes during the wintry months in North America. But lets not limit the geographical clustering of location to just North America, worldwide the dish is seen as an essential part of one’s life when the temperature drops.


This meal can be consumed within a family, were parents can prepare this quick and easy recipe of hot and sour chicken vegetable soup for their children. The consumption of this hot and sour chicken vegi soup does not have to be limited to only when the kids are sick or have a high fever. Yet as the temperature starts to drop it can be made or prior to seasonal changes. The soup is hot, sour and spicy. The texture can be smooth or chunky; it is solely up to an individual’s preference and taste.  

This homemade dish is superb in taste, where one does not have to go to a restaurant. It might look like one of those dishes were the recipe is complicated. But once you try out this simple easy step recipe, all your worries and hesitation will go away. Hence you will get tempted to make more soup recipes that might sound or look difficult. However, if the word is associated with homemade, the complication level eventually decreases. This homemade meal is nothing to worry about.   1. Chicken Breasts (thin sliced)- 1 cup
  2. Carrot (chopped)- ¼ cup
  3. Cabbage (chopped)-  ¼ cup
  4. Mushrooms (chopped)-  ¼ cup
  5. Bamboo Shoots-  ¼ cup
  6. Celery-  ¼ cup
  7. Green Bell Pepper (sliced)-  ¼ cup
  8. Onion or Shallot (chopped)- 1
  9. Ginger (chopped)- 1 tbsp
  10. Garlic (chopped)- 1 tsp
  11. Egg (beaten)- 1
  12. Vegetable Stock- 6 cups
  13. Cornstarch- ¼ cup
  14. Soya Sauce-  ¼ cup
  15. Red Chilli Sauce- 2 tbsp
  16. Vinegar- 2 tbsp
  17. Pepper (White)- ½ tsp
  18. Salt- ½ tsp
  19. Olive Oil- 3 tbsp
  1. In a suitable large Wok, add oil and heat wok on high; Now place in the wok garlic, onion and ginger and saute for thirty seconds. After add in the chicken and stir-fry until the chicken is no longer pink. Now add in carrots, bell pepper, bamboo shoots, celery and and stir-fry. Add in the vegetable stock and let it boil. Now add in mushrooms, cabbage, red chilli sauce, soya sauce and bring it to boil.
  2. In a glass, mix in cornstarch with ½ cup cold water (this should turn into a paste). Add in the cornstarch paste and stir continuously until the soup thickens.  After add in the beaten egg and stir slowly so the egg could form into ribbons or shred form.  Add in vinegar, pepper and salt and bring it to boil and stir for 1 minute.
  3. Dish-out and ENJOY!
  1. You are welcome to add in chopped spring onions and or cilantro.
